What exactly is Djent (explain like i'm five) and why do people seem to hate it so much?

I've been to Wikipedia and r/djent and read the descriptions there but I don't really get what Djent is supposed to be. I mean I really like listening to Metal, but I haven't the first idea about how guitars are played. I just like the sounds they make.

Is there like a video on youtube where someone only plays the "djent" sound and says this is it? I listened to some bands that supposedly use it (like Meshuggah who apparently invented it) but I'm such a noob I cannot differenciate it.

Also, many people seem to hate it, but why?
